STREET STYLE PHOTOGRAPHY
Street style photography has become very popular within the last 10 years, especially in most recent years with the population of social media, e.g. Instagram and blogs. The pressure to have that perfect Instagram feed with the perfect outfits are becoming more of a demand. We all want to have that perfect Instagram look so here are a few tips for photographers to get that perfect street style image.
-
Shooting on an up angle can help the model look taller and help get more of the background in, especially with street style photography, the background enhances the picture so getting more of the background will help with the quality of the shot and making it more lifestyle like.
-
When shooting on a direct angle, be sure not to get your shadow in, taking in consideration of the different lighting.
-
To get a detailed shot, angle the camera downwards, not getting the face in to try and capture the outfit. Also, having the model interact with the clothing can show movement and capture detail in the outfit as well as a more candid shot.
-
Try and incorporate colour in the background that is also reflected in the outfit.
-
If the model is sitting down, take the photo on an angle facing up as it will follow the legs up making them look longer.
-
Shooting from the hip also helps the model to look tall and long but without you bending down and shooting on an up angle.
-
It’s always good, especially for Instagram photography, to interact with the background as well, especially if it has objects like flowers etc. this creates that more candid shot. Using a window, creating reflection can make the image more lifestyle like.
-
However, sometimes with Instagram you don’t always want a lot going on, so change it up with a plainer background but still have some colour to it.
-
With spring and summer coming up, when shooting with sunglasses, get the model to move around to try and find a good reflection to capture that perfect sun and colour on the sunglasses.
