YAZBUKEY

The Yazbukey brand, and Yaz Kurhan as a designer, is renowned worldwide. The designer’s creations, such as accessories and bags, are a trademark in the fashion industry as they can be easily identified. Yazbukey’s work can be described as playful, ironic and statement, her bags are fierce and always contain a soft glamorous irony. Bold accessories such as earrings and necklaces can turn a basic look into an interesting but yet glamorous look. The Yazbukey brand has also launched iPhone cases, broaches, clothing pieces and shoe charms.  The designer also collaborated with Lacoste in 2017 to create a playful, tennis-inspired capsule sportswear collection. The designer’s last collection is called “THE LAND OF GODDESSES”, an Egyptian-infused collection which was debuted at Paris Fashion Week at Galerie de Nesle in Paris in early 2018.

PLATFFORM magazine online team is proud to present this exclusive interview on herself, brand and inspirations:

What is your inspiration behind your brand?

Live life in between realness and surreal.

A life in trompe l'œil through my fetish material plexiglass.

How did you decide, after studying graphic design, to start your own fashion brand?

I've studied industrial design where I specialized in perfume bottle design, then studied at studio Bercot before starting my own brand I've worked in fashion houses such as Martin Margiela or Givenchy (McQueen era).

What is the message you would like to transmit to people with your accessories?

Be happy and fierce!

In your opinion, who is the woman who wears your products?

Women with a touch of humour, so she can be any age.

Do you follow trends when it comes to design your new collection?

No, I only follow my dreams!

What was your inspiration behind the Yazbukeyland of Goddesses SS18 collection?

My mother was an Egyptologist, she specialized in women in ancient Egypt. She was so inspired by Queen Hatshepsut.

I wanted to give an homage to my mom. So I created this story around the archeologist Yazettes searching for and discovering the goddess fountain.

What do you cite as being the key to becoming a successful woman?

Aura and brains.

What are your future plans for your brand?

I’m working on many different projects right now. Launching a mat lipstick line with Shu Uemura. Also collaborating with hotel Metropole in Monte Carlo. The future is yazbukeyland: a mix of fashion design, home décor, stage decor and  make up.
